My paintings are stories, records, and a means of sharing experience. Over the past few years my work has increasingly been concerned with the representation of experience and my current paintings move freely between figuration and abstraction. I love succulent paint and delectable colours which describe openings, cues and intuition, feelings and sensations. I illustrate a journey and at the same time capture single moments of realization. I create from a place of receptivity and flow, and my intentions are hinged around the concept of artwork opening a dialogue between artist and viewer.
I paint at home, and in my art studio in Reigate, Surrey, a historic market town nestled at the foot of the magnificent North Downs. My art foundations lie in landscape, the human figure and location work. Growing up in the heart of Sussex, I painted in farmers’ fields, recorded dramatic autumn skylines from the back of a VW Golf Mk 1, and embraced the cold wind painting in the sweeping hills of Ditchling Beacon. Travelling extensively in Europe on painting and drawing trips, I soaked up Seville’s orange and yellow sun beaten pathways and encountered Lisbon’s pastel coloured streets. My sketchbooks are of particular importance to me, and mylife drawings created during my Illustration degree were awarded a special distinction by Kingston University. I have exhibited in West Sussex and in the Conningsby Gallery, London, and curated an art exhibition in Carthage, Tunisia.
